Assembled
by singer/trumpeter Tony Luna in 1992, Los Hooligans emerged as
an alternative to the third wave ska revival, creating an infectious
Jamaican ska mix that includes heavy doses of uptempo Latin jazz,
big band swing, and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. In 1997 Los Hooligans
released their debut album "Traditions" on MOON SKA, gaining instant
worldwide acclaim in addition to solidifying their reputation as
one of the Bay Areašs hottest acts. While "Traditions" went on to
be one of MOON SKA's best sellers, LOS HOOLIGANS were also included
on compilations produced by Steady Beat, Kingpin, Aztlan and of
course MOON SKA NYC.
Los Hooligans
has shared the stage and filled the dance floors with such acts
as The Skatalites, The Specials, Dance Hall Crashers, Bad Manners,
Hepcat, Jump With Joey, Let's Go Bowling, The Aggrolites, Chris
Murray, The Inciters, and countless more. Los Hooligans is consistently
pushing the limits of their music with original and favorite cover
tunes to keep the crowd moving and singing. In a local scene that
is hot with live activity again - including JUMP UP label mates
SEE SPOT, ISRAELITES, DEBONAIRES, and STEADY UPS Los Hooligans
proudly take their place in on top of a healthy California traditional
ska scene that continues to thrive as mainstream ska/rock bands
loose their appeal. "MAFIOSO SKA" is a wonderful return to form,
delivering a dozen new tracks of high energy traditional ska that
can only come from one of the world's healthiest music scenes. "MAFIOSO
SKA" is the 2nds release in a joint venture between THE ISRAELITES
run SHANTYTOWN RECORDS and JUMP UP RECORDS based in Chicago.
