They crew at MAD BUTCHER Germany really outdid themselves with these reissues from the late 8os!! ARTHUR KAY’s “RARE AND TASTY” was released on SKANK Records in 1988 but actually compiled his rare self-released singles during the beginning of the 80s during the height of 2-TONE. Songs like “PLAY MY RECORD” and “SOOTY IS A RUDY” are stone cold 2-TONE classics, but his “SKA WARS” single was not far behind. This album is essential for all fans of “lost” UK 2-TONE sounds! The other reissue from the same period is 1989’s 4 track EP from the RUDE BOYS, this was the new orleans r&b styled ska band fronted by Roddy Moreno of The Oppressed. Originally released on 12″ single on SKA RECORDS, Mad Butcher has put this exact repro on 7″ single once again!
At long last, two 90’s classics from THE TOASTERS back on limited edition cassette tape! “DUB 56” was released in 1994, right when the ska scene started to kick into high gear! The album was released on cassette tape by Moon Ska NYC and in Europe on Poland’s Rock N’ Roller label. “2 TONE ARMY” originally was released in 1996 as “HARD BAND FE DEAD” on Moon Ska NYC, and positioned the band to be one of the top acts during the heydey of third wave ska. Features guest appearances from Lester Sterling of The Skatalites and Laurel Aitken. In 1998 the album was named “2 TONE ARMY” for the very first time, released in Poland by Rock N’ Roller…on cassette! This was the only tape release for the album, and has become quite a rarity indeed! We’re glad to have it back on tape once again! Both “DUB 56” and “2 TONE ARMY” are limited editions of 150 copies with brand new artwork – highly collectible! Celebrate RECORD STORE DAY 2017 with JUMP UP, and pick up our limited vinyl edition of the RUDE GUEST anthology! Marble vinyl, limited to 150 copies, comes with a DL code and a button! Not familiar with their story? During the early 80’s a small handful of bands kept the 2-Tone ska flame alive – Chicago’s RUDE GUEST was one of them! They released 4 limited edition cassettes before the US third wave kicked into full gear, and this release compiles all 16 songs from these tapes. Songs songs range from happy-go-lucky uptempo 2-Tone ska with a strong sax lead (think Madness or Bad Manners) to progressive roots reggae with a rock guitar lead and brooding 80’s keyboard. We first issued these tracks for CASSETTE STORE DAY back in October, and received some amazing press from the Chicago Reader – who did a full feature on the release including an interview with founding member Paul Schroeder. Read all about that HERE. Continue reading RECORD STORE DAY: RUDE GUEST Lost Chicago Ska 1982-1993″ LP vinyl / CD / TAPE
We are so pleased to have these must have 80’s classics from THE TOASTERS back in stock! One of my faves to this day is their 1989 classic “THRILL ME UP”, originally released on Skaloid. That was the heyday of singers Sean ‘Cavo‘ Dinsmore and Lionel ‘Nene‘ Bernard, who became so popular from this album that they got signed to a major label as the UNITY 2. Tracklisitng: A1 Go Girl A2 Don’t Blame Me A3 Haitian Frustration A4 Decision At Midnight A5 Frankenska B1 Thrill Me Up B2 Ska Killers B3 Johnny Go Ska B4 Keep On Going B5 Rhapsody In Bluebeat
Not to be outdone two of their classic 12″ EPs are now reissued as 7″ singles! “Recriminations” (1985) with the songs Recriminations, Razor Cut, Run Rudy Run, Radiation Skank and “East Side Beat” (1987) with the songs East Side Beat, Mr. Trouble , Manipulator, ABC’s
JUMP UP is proud to keep 45rpm 7″ singles alive, with “portablism” (portable turntablism) and DJ culture on the rise we are releasing more vinyl singles than ever before! First up is brand new material from SYMARIP’s MONTY NEYSMITH! We began working with MONTY back in 2014, we teamed him up with THE BISHOPS from Omaha for a live concert at Chicago’s Mayne Stage. The partnership blossomed into a 7″ single early in 2015, then MONTY worked with SOUL RADICS for a second 7″ single later that year. In 2016 he toured around the USA with THE BISHOPS and began recording tracks for an upcoming full length album. To kick things off right, we are releasing this new 7″ featuring two classic SYMARIP tunes from “SKINHEAD MOONSTOMP” re-done in vintage reggae style: “Skin Flint” is a classic mid-tempo instrumental organ grinder, “Fung Shu” is a funky skinhead reggae vocal cut with hilarious lyrics! We are so proud to announce THE SLACKERS and JUMP UP have teamed up to release 5 classic albums on cassette for the first time ever! The whole idea came about when THE SLACKERS announced three album themed shows at Los Angeles’ Troubadour and they wanted to do something special for the gigs. Since JUMP UP has lead the way in the ska/reggae world releasing 9 cassettes in the past year and participating in two Cassette Store Days, naturally we jumped at the chance to get these classics on magnetic tape for the very first time. Hell, if Green Day can release a 13 album cassette box set that comes with a boombox….we can make three cassettes for one of the greatest modern ska bands of all time who are celebrating their 25th anniversary! Pick up a vintage boombox on eBay, or hook up that tape deck into your system – it’s all about analog goodness and embracing what’s great about collectible physical media. All tapes are limited to 200 copies each!
THE SLACKERS “CLOSE YOUR EYES”
THE SLACKERS “PECULIAR”
THE SLACKERS “THE QUESTION”
THE SLACKERS “RED LIGHT” (includes 3 bonus tracks, only appearance on physical media!)

Continuing the UNICORN reissue restocks – we restocked the brilliant debut album from Italy’s finest 2-TONE influenced ska act CASINO ROYALE – “TEN GOLDEN GUNS” was released in 1989 to critical acclaim and launched the career of a band that would last decades, but who would change stylistically. The debut is simply the best for SKA fans! “Someone Says” is a true 2-TONE sing along classic – one that we played on our earliest radio shows back when it came out! The wait is over! JUMP UP is proud to release the follow-up studio album from one of today’s best ska-jazz-reggae acts – the BROOKLYN ATTRACTORS. Anyone familiar with the American Reggae and Ska scene has already heard the work of the musicians in the BROOKLYN ATTRACTORS. The group’s core line-up consists of New York City Reggae and Ska veterans, Jamaican percussion legend LARRY McDONALD (Carlos Malcolm, Toots & The Maytals, Count Ossie), guitarist ANDY BASFORD (Monty Alexander, Lee Perry, Gil Scot Heron), EDDIE OCAMPO, BIG DAN JESSELSOHN, BUFORD O’SULLIVAN, GIDDEON BLUMEBTHAL, MATT KURSMARK, MIKE SARASON, as well as Anant Pradhan and Luke Penella, two emerging musicians on the NY Jazz scene. The group was created by Westbound Train trumpeter and Void Union co-founder RICH GRAIKO in 2011 as a way to pay homage to 1960’s era Jamaican and American instrumental music. The band will be part of the first every SKA & ROCK STEADY FESTIVAL in Jamaican over Thanksgiving weekend.
