Sorry, BEST DUB is now out of print.
It seems strange, but we are seeing a bit of a renaissance on this album! At the time it was generally overlooked (some flat out hated it!) – but the fact of the matter is that HOT STOVE JIMMY’s “Theme From A Major Hit” was a bit ahead of it’s time. Fast forward t0 2017, RIOT FEST does a post on the “Ska’s Strangest Strands” and mentions it alongside the BLUE MEANIES in a truly favorable light calling it AVANT-SKA: “Likeminded Chicago bands The Blue Meanies and Hot Stove Jimmy would embrace the ska tag and push it to its psychedelic, drugged-out limits, with their respective final albums, 2000’s The Post Wave and 1999’s Theme For A Major Hit, respectively, being the most prime examples. By then, ska-punk was de rigueur, and though both acts fell into that tag at one time or another, their final albums sounded like acid-drenched freakouts that just so happened to ska elements peppered in. Surely confounding at their time, The Post Wave and Theme For A Major Hit remain documents of a time when ska became its most untethered and experimental, something that would take years to be fully embraced.” Continue reading HOT STOVE JIMMY “Theme for a Major Hit” LP vinyl available! OUT OF STOCK. We here at JUMP UP are extremely proud to release the 4th full length album from Riverside’s THE DEBONAIRES, one of THE most soulful ska/reggae bands to come from the USA. We loved this record as soon as we heard it, “Movin'” features 14 tracks including guest vocals from Angelo Moore from Fishbone, Chris Murray and Vic Ruggiero of The Slackers. They play wicked roots/country reggae with magical harmonies AND killer ska tunes – including an amazing cover of Eric “Monty” Morris’ “Oil In My Lamp” featuring Angelo on vocals!

Can you believe that “THE RAMBLERS” turned 10 years old this year? Wow! Here’s your chance to get this stunning album on vinyl once again! “The production is superb; clean, but not slick, capturing and distinguishing every note, whilst creating a fleshy, warm sound. Arrangements are inspired – forget the many stellar solos and grand bass lines, those automatically garner attention, it’s the small musical passages – the three bars of organ swagger, the little drum fill, the guitar flourishes – that demand notice by their very understatement. The closer you listen, the more of these subtle interjections you’ll find, each immaculately timed, placed and delivered, all beautifully coloring the songs. Dare one compare it to Jackie Mittoo’s time at Studio One? Close, but I think Gladdy & the Allstars’s stellar work across the early reggae age is more apt. And then there’s the songs themselves, a diverse bunch but sharing one thing in common, their strong melodies, arguably the most powerful in DGB’s career. Record Store Day (RSD) SKA Sampler
brought to you by Jump Up Records and some of the greatest bands playing Ska music right now.
Far too often when a band claims to combine two dissimilar styles of music into an all powerful “new” hybrid, fans get a wee bit skeptical. After all, in most cases these creative endeavors fail miserably – and quite often it involves ska music. Simply put, this stereotype does not apply to the SKABILLY REBELS. RODDY RADIATION’s band successfully takes the best parts of rockabilly, minus the cheesiness that all too often is associated with the genre, and then puts it to a laid back traditional ska beat. Should we expect anything less? Of course you already know him as the legendary guitarist of The Specials (who also wrote their classics ‘Rat Race’, ‘Concrete Jungle’ & ‘Hey Little Rich Girl’), who also later formed blues influenced acts The Bonediggers and The Tearjerkers. He’s a veteran and true innovator of both the 2-TONE ska movement and the English rockabilly revival scene. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Soul Radics have been very busy the past year traveling all over the USA, playing with major acts including THE AGGROLITES, FISHBONE, THE TOASTERS, MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES, and Stranger Cole at Jamaican Oldies Weekend in Chicago. Blistering traditional ska and early reggae with gritty soul melodies is what you get, their shows are an energetic tribute to the early sounds of Jamaica. So dress sharp and wear your good shoes, you will dance! “DOWN TO THE HALL” is their stunning debut on JUMP UP, ranging from laid back skinhead reggae grooves (“Pressing On”, “Rock It Steady”, “Never Soon Enough”), uptempo horn driven neo-traditional ska (“Reggae Better”, “The Worst Thing”, “Think Twice”) and 2-Tone dancers (“Don To The Hall”,”The Worst Thing”) – these nine tracks are full of sweet harmonies, bubbly organ, tight horns, and the powerful female lead vocals of skinbyrd pin-up Dani Radic. At a time when traditional ska/reggae bands worldwide are dominated by
clones of The Slackers and The Aggrolites, SOUL RADICS truly stand out from the crowd with a unique, 100% original sound. CD is a limited edition digipak, LP vinyl is currently sold out, sorry.
NICO LEONARD is back, once again at his famed PUM PUM HOTEL studios in Belgium cranking out the finest Jamaican sounds on the European continent, if not the world! Oh where do we begin? Well over 10 years ago we were introduced to the MOON INVADERS, a sweet New Orleans rhythm & blues fueled ska band that went on to make four incredible studio albums before calling it a day. In between those great albums they started the CAROLOREGIANS with several members of MOON INVADERS, focussing more on funky reggae and Jamaican “skinhead” sounds – we loved both bands so much JUMP UP sponsored a USA tour for them and released a limited TOUR ONLY vinyl LP, a split band CD, and selections from the PUM PUM HOTEL VOL 1 CD collection released on Grover Records. NICO has returned with a fantastic new dub / roots project enlisting a couple players Continue reading PYROTECHNIST “Dub Rocketry” CD (Ltd 100) / LP vinyl (Ltd 300) – NICO from Moon Invaders / Caroloregians / Reggae Workers of The World!
If you don’t dance to THE CROMBIES, you don’t dance! Chicago’s 2-TONE champs have finally gone and done it – recorded their debut album for JUMP UP RECORDS! Formed in 2010 by ex-members of DEAL’S GONE BAD and LORD MIKE’S DIRTY CALYPSONIANS with a very simple idea – start out as a 2-TONE cover band playing the hits of THE SPECIALS, BAD MANNERS, BEAT, MADNESS, etc – the later create 2-TONE versions of songs that have that ska potential! Original DGB singer “Lord” Mike Park once again was on the case and recruited a top notch troop that included ex-DGB keyboard player Karl Gustafson, DGB guitarist Dave Simon, Vee Sonnets on lead guitar, Jason Berry on bass, and Matt Meuzelaar on drums. The band’s first 2-TONE’d studio cut was NINEY THE OBSERVER’s “BLOOD & FIRE” released on a limited edition 7″ single, with a new version of the classic DGB song “MAD AT THE WORLD” on the flip. It was an instant hit, the single got dancefloors moving all across the world! Continue reading THE CROMBIES “Dance Crazee” CD / Deluxe CD / Tape – 2 TONE SKA from Chicago!
