OUT OF PRINT, SORRY! We at JUMP UP are so proud to be working with Original SYMARIP keyboardist / singer / songwriter MONTY “Neysmith” MONTGOMERY in 2015! The partnership started at the end of 2014 when we booked him for a Jamaican Oldies show at Mayne Stage, for that gig we called on THE BISHOPS from Omaha, Nebraska to learn the SYMARIP songbook plus some of Monty’s modern moonstomp classics. We figured since everyone was in town, let’s go into the studio and see what happens! Produced by Mike Corcoran of Deal’s Gone Bad at his Legendary studios, the gang went in to re-record two of Monty’s classics from the new millennium – “JUMP” is a midtempo ska groover with great horn hooks and soulful vocals calling you to the dancefloor! The flip is a tribute to the Laurel Aitken – “Laurels For Laurel” thanks the Godfather of Ska for taking a chance on a young group called THE BEES – who would eventually morph into the mighty SYMARIP! It’s also a midtempo ska groover with THE BISHOPS providing excellent backing vocals as well as that steady backbeat. Continue reading MONTY “Neysmith” MONTGOMERY of SYMARIP returns! THE TOASTERS released their first record “BEAT UP” in 1984 – this record pre-dated the launch of MOON RECORDS! With “BRIXTON BEAT” on the a-side (a very early rendition of “EAST SIDE BEAT” and “THE BEAT” on the flip, this was one of the earliest signs of ska life in a post 2-TONE world! Earlier this year the band uncovered original sleeves from back in the day, so we decided to re-press the record once again and put them in these original sleeves. Limited to 500 once these are gone…they are gone! Marble vinyl and white vinyl!
Did you get our limited edition 7″ single with SUSAN CADOGAN and KEN BOOTHE? Back in February 2014, we brought lovers rock legend SUSAN CADOGAN to Chicago for one of our Jamaican Oldies shows…it was a MASSIVE success. A packed house that was brought to its knees by SUSAN’s sultry singing style, backed by Chicago’s DRASTICS. During our time with SUSAN we learned about a recently recorded duet with another Jamaican living legend – the one and only KEN BOOTHE ! Upon hearing the tune we just needed to help get this on vinyl! A track that is equal parts vintage 70s roots AND modern reggae, its dramatic vocals and breathtaking harmonies captivate the listener instantly. A reggae anthem for 2014! Hear it! Then get this 7″ single! Pressed on white vinyl with a heart shaped insert designed by CHEMA SKANDAL! CURRENTLY OUT OF PRINT (sorry!)
Babylove & The Van Dangos deliver an intense live show. The band guarantees an extravaganza of ripping skanking, heavy one-drops, and blasting horns, with the energetic frontman Daniel Broman spreading the love of old school ska and rocksteady music. Their unique take on the Jamaican tradition has brought them around the world and earned them a place in league with the top live acts on the ska scene.
THE HYPOCONDRIACS are rumored to have been the first reggae/rocksteady band from Madrid, who recorded in the late 60’s and released one privately pressed LP that went virtually unnoticed by the press and music fans…not for musical reasons! Dave Barker and Roy Ellis are rumored to contribute backing vocals on this scarce album…if you listen closely you can hear that it could be true. The reason why people did not buy the LP from the band back in the day? Fear and superstition!
From what we know this four piece had contracted a very rare and highly contagious disease that nobody could diagnose. Because of this, fans were afraid to just touch a copy of the LP – you can imagine what that did for sales! The band had given up on live shows altogether. Copies of the LP that survived seemed to have been scrubbed clean by the owners, and also included a “farewell note” from the band, which we have put into Google translate for non-Spanish speakers:

If you didn’t snag your copy of his new album on JUMP UP on his 2011 USA tour, it’s time to do so now! ITALY’s top traditional ska/reggae artist returns – MR T BONE’s soulful lyrics and big trombone often is compared to Germany’s DR RING DING, but he truly is a unique singer, instrumentalist, and bandleader whose YOUNG LIONS return for 14 tracks of rootsy ska, early reggae, and funky rock steady. Fans of THE SLACKERS totally love the YOUNG LIONS’ tight groove, and after the recent Chicago show a close friend of mine said he reminded him of a cross between LOUIS PRIMA and DENNIS BROWN! Now that’s an amazing compliment indeed!

SOUL OF PUM PUM HOTEL WAX IS HERE! A must-have for all fans of the MOON INVADERS and CAROLOREGIANS! Nico Leonard, one of the main men behind both bands, runs the infamous PUM PUM HOTEL studios in his native Belgium. Earlier this year, GROVER released a 23 track CD featuring some of his most recent products. We at JUMP UP loved the CD so much we offered to make a limited vinyl release to feature the Jamaican tracks – 300 copies only, on beautiful thick orange wax housed in a clear PVC sleeve. 8 tracks from MOON INVADERS, RATAZANAS, PUM PUM ALL STARS, NIC & VIC (RICE), BASSY RIDDIM, and an exclusive track from THE CAROLOREGIANS “FAT BACK”!
Great 2010 album from ITALY’s top traditional ska / reggae artist MR T BONE & THE YOUNG LIONS! Just finished a tour of California with THE SLACKERS’ DAVE HILYARD and THE ROCKSTEADY SEVEN. MR T BONE’s soulful lyrics and great trombone playing brings comparisons to Germany’s DR RING DING, but plain and simple: if you like roots ska and early reggae sounds, this is your new favorite band!
Since 1999, Mr. T-bone has been a member of the BlueBeaters and Africa Unite, which are two of the most influential ska and reggae bands in Italy. During that same year he founded the Jamaican Liberation Orchestra, the first Italian ska-jazz band and recorded the album “THAT’S IT!” (2002). He then composed and interpreted the soundtrack for the movie “Ravanello Pallido” which was a great success in Italy. In 2002 he joined the “New York Ska Jazz Ensemble” and with them he played two European tours and recorded the album “MINOR MOODS”. In 2004 came “MR.T-BONE SEES AMERICA”. He Continue reading MR T BONE “HEROES” LP (GREEN WAX) (JUMPMRTBONE) (OUT OF PRINT)
