Formed in Dallas, Texas in 2015 around a mutual love of vintage Jamaican music, the Boss Riot sound pays tribute to early reggae, ska, rock steady, and soul while continuing to push the creative envelope of the genres. The band stays rooted in a vintage sound yet delivers a modern twist, bringing to mind the pop sensibilities of the English Beat, The Untouchables or The Selecter. Lead by the the powerful pipes of Vicki Tovar, her colorful hair and stage intensity channels the spirits of Dusty Springfield and Nancy Sinatra. Boss Riot is comprised of veterans from the 90’s ska scene, including current members of Rude King and the founding member of Detroit’s pioneering band The Exceptions, whose recordings graced releases on Jump Up, Asian Man, and Moon Ska throughout the third wave. “Lace Up Straight” is the band’s 14 track debut album, following hot on the heals of Ska Brewing/Jump Up collections “Drink The Ska” and “Pressure Hop” which introduced Boss Riot to over 7000+ fans worldwide. Limited edition green vinyl (50 copies!) and hand assembled slimline CD limited to 100 copies.
“Our sound is funky reggae, soul, a dash of country roots, and Punk Rock Ethos. The style of reggae and ska we play has urgency and intensity. It’s sweaty, pound the floor, dance music”.
It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 7 years since we released the second album from Indiana’s funky soul reggae ska masters, now they are a name known around the world! We were lucky enough to get one last small “dirty repress” from the original stampers (so don’t be picky if there’s a little crackle love!), so act fast once these are gone they are GONE. Only 50 guys!
Though themes are of heartbreak, disappointment, and social worries, the end all be all is “don’t stop, keep moving.” From the Muddy Banks of the Wabash River comes the Soul Sonic, Blues Drenched, Sounds of Reggae and Ska that is the GRR. Their debut “HOOSIER HOMEGROWN” instantly had the ska scene taking notice. Could this band really have only formed in 2006? Hard workin and constantly touring, GRR quickly built up a solid fan base by playing shows big and small all across the USA, including stints with THE SLACKERS, MOON INVADERS, and AGGROLITES. On this self titled second album, producer DAVE HILLAYRD enhances these powerful influences: Trojan Records, Studio one, Motown, Stax, NYC Ska, Toots & the Maytals, The Wailers, The Skatalites, Lee Perry/The Upsetters, The Slackers, The Aggrolites, Johnny Cash, James brown, Otis Redding & more. Its Motown & Kingston. Soul & Reggae. The result is brilliant, 14 amazing tunes that capture the high-energy that GRR have had at their shows since day #1. Green wax is sold out, black vinyl available. Housed in a two sided full color (well, at least green!) poster sleeve!
Two classic 90’s album from American ska pioneers THE TOASTERS are once again back on vinyl! “DUB 56” from 1994 is a Moon Ska NYC classic, back in print on dark grey marble vinyl in cool poster sleeve! A fantastic album, a highlight of the “third wave” – influenced heavily by British 2 Tone yet distinctly American. 14 tracks on vinyl: Direction, Freedom, Mona, Dancin’, Dub 56, Sweet Cherie, Tunisia, Little Hidden Secrets, Marlboro Man, Ain’t Huthin’, Razor Cut, Legal Shot, Midnight Hour, Goody Goody. A couple years ago when we were chatting to Bucket from THE TOASTERS, we realized that there were a handful of albums that NEVER appeared on vinyl including the amazing 2 TONE ARMY collection which included their biggest MTV2 video hits! The artwork is a tribute to iconic NYC SKA artist STEVE HEX who we lost a few years ago, this must have album includes the hits “I WASN’T GOING TO CALL YOU ANYWAY” and the title track “2 TONE ARMY”. 10 tracks, on dark grey marble vinyl. A truly fantastic record, one we are so proud to have our name on!
If you’re a manic collector make sure you pick up these two albums on limited edition cassette tape too!
This project has been a bit of a holy grail for years. Did it exist? Could such an amazing concept album really happen? Just when you thought it was all bogus, the band would sneak a track or two in a live set and rumors would begin all over again. Shared live fan videos of GRR performing “PONY” and “NO DIGGITY” in 2017 got everyone talking again….then it happened. An official announcement on the Cassette Store Day website. It firs appeared as “Knockin’ Roots”, but then it’s official name was unleashed “SWEAT STEADY”. Eight tracks that immediately bring a smile to your face, and a mad dash to the packed dancefloor with the exclamation “that’s my jam!” Damn straight it’s your jam, this album is all that and a bag of chips son! Amazing ska/reggae versions of Lauren Hill “Doo Wop”, Ginuwune “Pony”, Blackstreet “No Diggity”, R. Kelly “I Believe I Can Fly”, KC & JoJo “All My Life”, Aaliyah “Are You That Somebody”, Boys II Men “I’ll Make Love To You” and Montell Jordan “This Is How We Do It”. You gotta hear it to believe it! Visually. we put this on green vinyl (of course!) and have designed it to look like a 1990’s major-label DJ promo-only LP (you know, back when everyone said vinyl was dying). LP limited to 300 copies. “Mixtape style” slimline CD limited to 150 copies. Continue reading GREEN ROOM ROCKERS “Sweat Steady” LP / CD available now! 90’s R&B inna Jamaican stylee!

It’s been a few years since we’ve had an album from THE DENDRITES up on the site, but we assure you that this will make up for lost time! You might remember their “MOUNTAIN STANDARD TIME” full length on Megalith back in 2009, since then the band have really built up a strong scene in their home state of Colorado with a self-released CD in 2011 and a cool vinyl 12″ EP in 2013. Fast forward to 2017 at SKA BREWING’s 22nd ANNIVERSARY PARTY in Durango Colorado. Headliners LESS THAN JAKE were forced to cancel due to Hurricane Irma and with one day’s notice THE DENDRITES came and saved the day! A wonderful night was had by all, the band’s super cool and jazzy instrumental ska vibe was a hit with the packed crowd, fans danced right to the very end! It was at that very moment that we here at JUMP UP knew we wanted THE DENDRITES to join the family. In this day and age an 100% instrumental ska/reggae/jazz album is a bit of a rarity, but we LOVED this record so much that we were up for the challenge. Kinda like Blue Note recordings, timeless music “sings” whether they have vocals or not – “DAMN RIGHT” is one of those albums that we are sure will be considered a “future classic”. Available on aqua colored vinyl, cassette tape, and compact disc.
The year was 1997. Rabid fans worldwide had played “God Bless Satan” to death for 3 long years. Everyone wondered what they were in for with “Maximum Perversion” – and nobody expected what the band was about to unleash! If you were still a kid when it came out, you probably felt musically thrown from a moving car…wondering what had just happened! Simply put, this album was light years ahead of it’s time. The band’s extravagant rhythms heralded a new shift into experimental territories. From the funky breaks and avant-garde solos of “Break Your Ankle Punk” to the occasional forays into metal and hardcore territory and even more genre fusions, the band was taking chances left and right expending more energy on unusual arrangements and broadening its “ska” sound. The brass players continued to sound top-notch, while the manic rhythms propelled the album along with a demonic gusto. Twenty years later, we figured that you’d finally understand the avant-ska of “Maximum Perversion”…thus we have reissued it on vinyl to bring this masterpiece to a whole new generation of fans. God bless Mephiskapheles! Continue reading MEPHISKAPHELES “Maximum Perversion” LP – 20th Anniversary Edition + their latest Mini-LP
