Deal’s Gone Bad charged onto the Chicago scene back in 1995, quickly establishing themselves as one the city’s top entertainers. Right from the beginning, DGB got the nod to open for such legendary reggae performers as Toots & The Maytals, The Skatalites, Justin Hinds, Yelloman, and Laurel Aitken, eventually moving on to high profile headlinig gigs at The Metro plus countless clubs across the city. Deal’s Gone Bad mix old skool Jamaican reggae/rock steady music with a pub-rock flair, one Chicago journalist called them an “uncontrollable band of pirates who conquer with big riddims & soulful emotion….not to mention countless pints of lager!” Their notorious stage show and touring has made them legendary within the skinhead/scooter scene, yet “Overboard” sees the band broaden thier appeal further into the roots reggae arena. One quick listen to “Overboard” reminds the listener of Harry J and Duke Reid Productions from the late 60’s, bouncy bass lines and Motown-influenced vocals drenched with organ and big brass. Dare we suggest that the band has re-created the Jamaican sound that spawned the hit album “The Harder They Come?”. Deal’s Gone Bad heads toward the new milennium with a firm grip on the roots of Jamaica, and “Overboard” is definately a tribute to the music’s founding fathers.
