First Grade Crush was started under the
name The Skallops in early 1995, and have since then turned into
a significant Chicago-area ska-punk force by adding a full horn
section and theramin, the experimental sound-manipulating device
made famous by early electronica pioneers. These additions have
created an exciting new musical style, powerful rock influenced
by hyper ska, hardcore, emo, indie, & punk. Their extensive touring
has included shows at Chicago's House of Blues and Metro with Mustard
Plug, Blue Meanies, Eclectics, Mu330, Tuesday, and the Mr T Experience,
plus their appearances on four nationally distributed ska compilations
brought their music to tens of thousands of fans. This debut album
was recorded and mixed in the summer of 1998 at Pogo Studios (Champaign,
Illinois) by Mark Ruebel, engineer of HUM's latest album, and is
instantly recognizable by it's classy design by Jade Tree (Promise
Ring, Jets To Brazil) veterans The Collection Agency. First Grade
Crush will be touring extensively in 1999, bringing their unique
band of ska-influenced rock to fans nationwide...so get ready!
