"Got ska? Got reggae? Well if not, AFTERHOURS has
plenty of it to spare with their unique brand of
musical charm! The idea for AFTERHOURS came about in
the aftermath of the breakup of traditional ska
powerhouse, SeeSpot (who have since re-united), when
keyboardist Bradford Pate and guitarist Brian Dixon
decided not to stop the music when the rest of the
band had stopped dancing. Pate was one of the founding
members & keyboardist for SeeSpot, plus he tinkled the
ivories for ska band Mobtown from 1996-98. Dixon got
his start with ska band Checkmate in the early
'90's, toured with King Apparatus, joined SeeSpot in
early 1997 and was a founding member of LA reggae
sensations the RHYTHM DOCTORS (TKO Records). Years of
involvment within the intimate LA/So Cal ska scene made
the creation of a West Coast supergroup possible - one
that would incorporarte their taste for jazz, latin
rhythms, and big band with their true love - Jamaican
ska and reggae. AfterHours was the result - with
tremendous vocal performances from Greg Lee of HEPCAT,
Canadian transplant and ASIAN MAN solo recording
artist Chris Murray (KING APPARATUS), outstanding
rhythm work from Oliver Charles (OCEAN 11), DAVID
FUENTES (HEPCAT), JOEY ALTRUDA and WILLIE McNEIL (JUMP
WITH JOEY), and delicious solos contributed by David
Urquidi (Yeska) among others! The result: a beautiful
album of toe-tappin' ska and heart-warming reggae -
mixed with swingin' coctail jazz.
Can an album be as good as this sounds? YES!
