A COLDSPOT 8 was definitely a band that fell through the cracks during the commercial ska-boom of the late 90’s. There’s no other way to explain how a band this talented could have gone so unnoticed. Hailing from Orlando Florida, the band released their debut “It’s The Feel Good” for BEATVILLE RECORDS in 1998 to much critical acclaim…well, at least among ska-circles who still were looking for bright new bands not just playing sloppy ska-punk. Lead singer John Pinto’s smooth alto voice (very reminiscent of Chris Murray) soars over the band’s catchy, R&B influenced tunes - one listen to Coldspot 8 and you realize how GREAT these guys were! They could play soulfull ska as well as the Slackers, skinhead reggae as good as the AGGROLITES, dub as good as THE DRASTICS, harmonious roots reggae and rock-steady as good as HEPCAT. Rumbling bass, skittish guitar, bright horns, wailing keys, catchy harmonies, original tunes, warmth, passion, intensity…..it is all here. This “new” album “GET ON HIGH” was recorded a few years back at King Django’s VERSION CITY and has been eagerly awaiting its chance to be unleashed o the deserving ska/reggae public! Released on STUBBORN RECORDS through a new production deal with JUMP UP RECORDS – can a reunion be next for one of Americas most unknown traditional ska treasures? Stay tuned! !
For Fans of Skatalites, Slackers, Hepcat, Deal’s Gone Bad!
