Our yearly tradition of delivering a new Christmas record continues in 2019! In the past we have brought holiday cheer through 45 rpm records with the Pepper Pots, Brooklyn Attractors, Roger Rivas, Leo & The Line Up, Napoleon Solo, and Dr Ring Ding! This year we turn to our longtime dear friend MR T BONE and his latest project THE UPPTERTONES – a three piece that plays the music of Jamaica that pre-dated ska – a West Indies inspired version of Rhythm & Blues with a touch of mento and Latin styles. This new holiday single puts a Jamaican rhythm & blues spin on Louis Prima’s classic “Shake Hands With Santa Claus” – the flip “Rudolf The Red Noised Reindeer” in mento style!! Limited to 350 copies on red and white vinyl!
STAYA STAYA is an incredible ska band from Argentina that reminds us of early LOS FABULOSOS CADILLACS – shades of 2-TONE mixed with Latin rhythms. STAYA STAYA can play fantastic traditional ska too as witnessed on their debut full length “SOUL GEDDES”. For the 7 inch we teamed up with CHEMA SKANDAL for the deluxe edition – he designed and hand screened the sleeve art – he even put an inset! Red colored vinyl limited to 50 copies.
Spain’s top act returns with a new punky 3rd wave meets 2-Tone ska sound for fans of The Interrupters and Tim Timebomb, and Rancid (when they play ska!). Formed in 2005 by Carlos Dingo, the band soon became one of the world’s top rocksteady, early reggae, and ska acts led by the captivating lead vocals of Isa Garcia. Full length albums on Spain’s Liquidator Records (2010) and Germany’s Grover Records (2013) received critical acclaim worldwide, now the band have returned from a short hiatus with an uptempo and energetic 90s American ska sound, and what better label to unleash this new direction then on Jump Up Records, right? Three original members of legendary 60’s skinhead band are back together to do some ol’ MOONSTOMPING! Symarip evolved from the UK ska/soul/reggae band the Pyramids, who had recorded with the then leader of the Equals, Eddy Grant. The group formed in 1969, comprising Monty Naismith, Roy Ellis, Michael Thomas, Joshua Roberts and Frank Pitter. The success of ‘their single Skinhead Moonstomp’ led to the release in 1970 of an album of the same name, including versions of Roland Alphonso’s ‘Phoenix City’ as ‘Phoenix Reggae’, Nancy Sinatra’s ‘These Boots Are Made For Walking’, ‘Fung Shu’ and ‘Skinhead Girl’. The band was a major influence on the 2-Tone movement and have been cherished by fans worldwide for 50+ years. In 2014 Jump Up began releasing new vinyl singles from singer / songwriter / organist Monty Neysmith backed by The Bishops and Soul Radics. In 2016 a full length was released with The Bishops leading to tours across the USA, including a headlining slot at the Supernova festival. Fast forward to 2019 and Monty reunites with two of his original band mates Frank & Mike to create SYMARIP PYRAMID – ad a European tour and here we proudly present the debut two track 7 inch vinyl single! “War On Mars” is a mid tempo vocal ska groover, “Skinting” is an uptempo organ drenched skinhead reggae tune loosely based on the battle hymn of the republic. Limited edition of 300, 100 on red 100 on green and 100 on goldenrod! Goldenrod is reserved for our 7 inch of the month club members and is also available in the 3 color collectors bundle.
Screaming Records in Denmark have been putting out great ska singles for years! They started with releasing homegrown Danish modern ska bands LEO & THE LINEUP and BABYLOVE &THE VAN DANGOS, both incredibly soulful 2-Tone influenced neo-trad bands that eventually also released LPs on Jump Up Records! The LEO & THE LINEUP single features two songs from the “HIT THE STREETS” sessions that did not make the vinyl LP (but appeared on the CD). A few years later the label released a truly interesting solo record from THE BEATs RANKING ROGER – an early 2000’s tune that revived the :”acid ska” sound of the late 80’s UK rave scene, flipped wih a late 80’s unreleased gem with SLY & ROBBIE. Roger will truly be missed – but we stress that all fans pick up this interesting piece of his ska history before it’s sold out for good!
