Jump Up is leading the way supporting cassette culture with 12 releases for the yearly Cassette Store Day celebration! We lead ALL LABELS with the most new titles dropping on Saturday October 12th! One again we ask you to call a participating shop and request that they stock our titles for the day – we want to support brick and mortar stores first. As always we will be offering our titles on our website that day we do understand that not everyone is close to a participating store. Tapes are fun and inexpensive, and are always more limited than the vinyl or CD versions. In many cases tapes allow us to add bonus material that we simply can’t fit on a vinyl record. In this day and age it seems everything is available on vinyl and records have become mainstream, thus cassette culture has really taken off once again for true collectors. Do yourself a favor and pick up a vintage tape deck or boombox this year – you’ll be glad you did! For a list of participating shops go to the Cassette Store Day site HERE. To see close ups on the tapes and videos of them playing on our vintage boombox collection – follow us on Instgram
We are gearing up for another Cassette Store Day! 2019 will be our 4th year as an official label – once again we lead the pack with the most CSD releases of ANY label – 12 scheduled so far – www.cassettestoredayusa.com and check out all the glory! It’s crazy, when we jumped back on board in 2016 we released the “Pressure Drip” collaboration tape with Dark Matter – a Jump Up label sampler to be enjoyed while sipping on our exclusive coffee blend. Every year since then we have added more and more new titles and retro classics to the catalog. Tapes are super fun and very collectible, and they are more limited than vinyl! They are also VERY affordable – more and more tape decks, Walkman or Boombox style portable players are being made now too! Due to many requests we decided that it was time to designate a page to the tape catalog we have available. Everything BUT our first CSD tape “Pressure Drip” is currently available. See pics and lists – the more you order the cheaper the tapes get! Continue reading JUMP UP loves TAPES! We have released 43 cassettes to date! Get all catalog titles HERE!
The Uppertones is a powerful trio of trombone, vocals, piano, & drums lead by he one and only MR T BONE – dedicated to the sound of 1950’s “pre-ska” Jamaica. The kick start to homegrown Jamaican music came from American R’n’B (rhythm & blues) mixed with mento and other folk styles – from that ska was birthed and the rest is history! This trio aims to please crowds with a stompin’ swing style with a Jamaican edge, you hear mento, calypso, shuffle-blues with a nod to New Orleans via Kingston. This hotpot of sounds is captured in THE UPPERTONES latest album “UP UP UP!” – which we have on Italian import for the first time! You may remember Jump Up released the limited edition cassette at the end of 2018! And as a SECRET ADDED BONUS the first copies sold will come with a BONUS UPPERTONES 7″ that hasn’t been released yet!! We also have a VERY small handful of MR T BONE & THE YOUNG LIONS “Heroes” LP left on green vinyl – add one now before it is out of print forever!
The Prizefighters perform ska and rocksteady from Jamaica’s golden era, their brilliant new studio album “Firewalk” is their first since 2010’s “Follow My Sound”. Since that release the band has perfected their craft working side by side with the stars that created the music back in the 60’s. That resume is now quite impressive, it includes backing the “King of Ska” Derrick Morgan at Reggae Fest Chicago, twice with Stranger Cole including a duet show with Patsy, plus Chicago and Montreal showcases with the dazzling Roy & Yvonne. Their relationship with legendary harmonica player and vocalist Charley Organaire might be the most special, as he joined The Prizefighters in the recording studio for a session that lead to the 2014 mini-album Charley Organaire Meets The Prizefighters which lead to their first European tour. In the band’s words “it’s not just about playing the songs well; it’s about playing them correctly and authentically” – and the several years worth of authentic 60s Jamaican music conservatory experience between the first record and “Firewalk” really shows. Working hard on tunes with a mantra of “will this be good enough for Derrick Morgan? Or for Stranger & Patsy?” has conditioned the band to push themselves to ever higher standards. We are so proud to present this stunning new album in 2019 from one of our favorite bands. Let’s face it, without The Prizefighters we wouldn’t have been able to bring so many Jamaican legends to Chicago and keep the spirit of 60’s Jamaica alive.
Punky reggae rockers from Baltimore whose infectious energy keeps the party jumping all night, The Scotch Bonnets have been bringing the heat and the good-love vibe since their debut in 2009. The crew is fearlessly lead by singer-guitarist Kristin Forbes aka Lady Hatchet, whose tunes blend classic Jamaican groves with a funky fresh approach to American singer-songwriting. The Fuss is a dynamic ska, rock steady, and early reggae band from Washington, D.C. Their sound pays tribute to the music of 1960’s Jamaica and the British Mod scene, while putting modern slant on these timeless styles. The group is comprised of 3-part female harmonies, a 3-piece horn section, and 4-piece rhythm section. Since the band formed in 2014 and they’ve had the pleasure of sharing the stage with bands such as The Skatalites, The Toasters, The Pietasters, Eastern Standard Time, The Interrupters, Save Ferris, Steady 45’s, and many more. “Ourselves” is the band’s debut 14 track album, a brilliant follow up to their critically acclaimed “In Trouble” EP, standout track “So Many Times” recently appeared the Ska Brewing/Jump Up collection “Drink The Ska”. This past summer we leaked a limited run of vinyl to the band on their east coast tour, now we are proud to say that we can supply the world with this fantastic debut. It’s as great as it looks – no lie! The retro cassette version is only currently available from us in our collectors bundle, it is officially being released for Cassette Store Day USA on 10/13. We are so proud to have THE FUSS join the JUMP UP family!

The Toasters originally released their debut US album SKABOOM back in 1987, on the Celluloid label. The album is often stated as being the origin of modern, or “third-wave” ska in the United States. It followed the RECRIMINATIONS and EAST SIDE BEAT EPs that were released both in the USA and UK, introducing the world to a fresh new wave-y ska sound that was uniquely American yet linked to 2-TONE through secret producer JOE JACKSON. Two years later, THE TOASTERS’ official “debut” album POOLSHARK arrived via the UK label Unicorn, yet six tracks from that set were culled for inclusion on the legendary debut American full-length named SKABOOM. That set was brasher, brighter, and more emphatically ska driven than their earlier material, albeit with eclectic backdrops that ranged from the surf-side to the juke joint. Now boasting a brass section, and two new vocalists, THE TOASTERS’ sound was significantly shifting while the lineup continued expanding. By the time they came to record SKABOOM, the group had ballooned into an 11-piece aggregate. The resulting high adrenaline album found the band in top form, their playing extremely tight, and the arrangements increasingly intricate and innovative. VINYL AVAILABLE NOW! SUSAN CADOGAN is back with a new vintage reggae project produced by Mitch “King Kong” Girio of King Apparatus fame. The original “Take Me Back” EP was released in 2016 and featured 5 songs, ranging from lovers rock to ska, early reggae to roots. The EP immediately drew rave reviews worldwide, and SUSAN was soon doing BBC interviews just like the old days when she was Top of The Pops with “Hurts So Good”! We at JUMP UP immediately wanted to release it on vinyl and cassette, and asked Mitch Girio to kick out some new versions, dubs, and remixes to expand the project to 10 tracks. These 5 tracks range from spacey dub to Jamaican mento – a fantastic bonus! The EXPANDED version is now available on limited edition cassette tape (100 copies) and LP vinyl on white and pink vinyl. If you have a preference of vinyl color, send us a message at firstname.lastname@example.org. Everyone should know SUSAN’s work, so please read the below bio….
