The Toasters originally released their debut US album SKABOOM back in 1987, on the Celluloid label. The album is often stated as being the origin of modern, or “third-wave” ska in the United States. It followed the RECRIMINATIONS and EAST SIDE BEAT EPs that were released both in the USA and UK, introducing the world to a fresh new wave-y ska sound that was uniquely American yet linked to 2-TONE through secret producer JOE JACKSON. Two years later, THE TOASTERS’ official “debut” album POOLSHARK arrived via the UK label Unicorn, yet six tracks from that set were culled for inclusion on the legendary debut American full-length named SKABOOM. That set was brasher, brighter, and more emphatically ska driven than their earlier material, albeit with eclectic backdrops that ranged from the surf-side to the juke joint. Now boasting a brass section, and two new vocalists, THE TOASTERS’ sound was significantly shifting while the lineup continued expanding. By the time they came to record SKABOOM, the group had ballooned into an 11-piece aggregate. The resulting high adrenaline album found the band in top form, their playing extremely tight, and the arrangements increasingly intricate and innovative. VINYL AVAILABLE NOW! SUSAN CADOGAN is back with a new vintage reggae project produced by Mitch “King Kong” Girio of King Apparatus fame. The original “Take Me Back” EP was released in 2016 and featured 5 songs, ranging from lovers rock to ska, early reggae to roots. The EP immediately drew rave reviews worldwide, and SUSAN was soon doing BBC interviews just like the old days when she was Top of The Pops with “Hurts So Good”! We at JUMP UP immediately wanted to release it on vinyl and cassette, and asked Mitch Girio to kick out some new versions, dubs, and remixes to expand the project to 10 tracks. These 5 tracks range from spacey dub to Jamaican mento – a fantastic bonus! The EXPANDED version is now available on limited edition cassette tape (100 copies) and LP vinyl on white and pink vinyl. If you have a preference of vinyl color, send us a message at email@example.com. Everyone should know SUSAN’s work, so please read the below bio….
FLYING VIPERS are deconstructed rhythms, mutating melodies, and stark grooves. They are modern day saviors of vintage dub, as invented by engineers like King Tubby and Lee “Scratch” Perry in the early 1970’s. Since the advent of digital technology, however, the art of achieving these qualities through live fader pushing and knob tweaking has largely been lost to the convenience of automation and programmed perfection. Enter the Flying Vipers, armed with antiquated instruments, an archaic tape recorder, and a dangerous combination of strong coffee and stronger herb. Offering their own quirky twist on the tried and true formula for dub, their first two releases on Music ADD Records, The Green Tape (2015) and The Copper Tape (2016) simultaneously build on this foundation while traveling deep through time and space. The core trio of Marc & John Beaudette (Destroy Babylon, The Macrotones) and Zack Brines (Pressure Cooker, Kings of Nuthin’) have 15+ years in the New England scene, sharing the stage with legendary reggae acts from around the world. We are so proud to release their debut vinyl record, an incredible 7″ featuring Jamaican 70’s roots legend Johnny Clarke on vocals, with a crucial version on the flip! For Record Store Day 2017 we’ve got 50 copies of this single on olive green vinyl!

At long last, two 90’s classics from THE TOASTERS back on limited edition cassette tape! “DUB 56” was released in 1994, right when the ska scene started to kick into high gear! The album was released on cassette tape by Moon Ska NYC and in Europe on Poland’s Rock N’ Roller label. “2 TONE ARMY” originally was released in 1996 as “HARD BAND FE DEAD” on Moon Ska NYC, and positioned the band to be one of the top acts during the heydey of third wave ska. Features guest appearances from Lester Sterling of The Skatalites and Laurel Aitken. In 1998 the album was named “2 TONE ARMY” for the very first time, released in Poland by Rock N’ Roller…on cassette! This was the only tape release for the album, and has become quite a rarity indeed! We’re glad to have it back on tape once again! Both “DUB 56” and “2 TONE ARMY” are limited editions of 150 copies with brand new artwork – highly collectible! Celebrate RECORD STORE DAY 2017 with JUMP UP, and pick up our limited vinyl edition of the RUDE GUEST anthology! Marble vinyl, limited to 150 copies, comes with a DL code and a button! Not familiar with their story? During the early 80’s a small handful of bands kept the 2-Tone ska flame alive – Chicago’s RUDE GUEST was one of them! They released 4 limited edition cassettes before the US third wave kicked into full gear, and this release compiles all 16 songs from these tapes. Songs songs range from happy-go-lucky uptempo 2-Tone ska with a strong sax lead (think Madness or Bad Manners) to progressive roots reggae with a rock guitar lead and brooding 80’s keyboard. We first issued these tracks for CASSETTE STORE DAY back in October, and received some amazing press from the Chicago Reader – who did a full feature on the release including an interview with founding member Paul Schroeder. Read all about that HERE. Continue reading RECORD STORE DAY: RUDE GUEST Lost Chicago Ska 1982-1993″ LP vinyl / CD / TAPE

We are so proud to announce THE SLACKERS and JUMP UP have teamed up to release 5 classic albums on cassette for the first time ever! Since JUMP UP has lead the way in the ska/reggae world releasing 9 cassettes in the past year and participating in two Cassette Store Days, naturally we jumped at the chance to get these classics on magnetic tape for the very first time. The wait is over! JUMP UP is proud to release the follow-up studio album from one of today’s best ska-jazz-reggae acts – the BROOKLYN ATTRACTORS. Anyone familiar with the American Reggae and Ska scene has already heard the work of the musicians in the BROOKLYN ATTRACTORS. The group’s core line-up consists of New York City Reggae and Ska veterans, Jamaican percussion legend LARRY McDONALD (Carlos Malcolm, Toots & The Maytals, Count Ossie), guitarist ANDY BASFORD (Monty Alexander, Lee Perry, Gil Scot Heron), EDDIE OCAMPO, BIG DAN JESSELSOHN, BUFORD O’SULLIVAN, GIDDEON BLUMEBTHAL, MATT KURSMARK, MIKE SARASON, as well as Anant Pradhan and Luke Penella, two emerging musicians on the NY Jazz scene. The group was created by Westbound Train trumpeter and Void Union co-founder RICH GRAIKO in 2011 as a way to pay homage to 1960’s era Jamaican and American instrumental music. The band will be part of the first every SKA & ROCK STEADY FESTIVAL in Jamaican over Thanksgiving weekend.
