Two nuggets from the early 80s on vinyl for the first time! In the fall we were saddened to hear about the passing of founding member and original bass man Jim Robinson – we were already working on a Thanksgiving weekend Heavy Manners show ad quickly decided to turn the evening into a tribute to Jim. With help from new Chicago pressing plant Smashed Plastic and a fun 2-Tone inspired design by Destroy Brand graphics, we cranked out a limited edition one time press of 200 7″ singles to benefit Jim’s family. If you can’t pick one up at the show, get it here. If you never got around to picking up our last Heavy Manners reissue project then here’s another chance as we have a couple boxes left on clear/white vinyl. In 2011 Chicago ska/reggae legends HEAVY MANNERS recorded their first new music since the early 80s: “Get Me Out Of Debt” is a fun, whimsical and witty 2 TONE ska dancer with great keyboards and sax! “Fight The Good Fight” is a darker, political conscious reggae tune ripe for fans of original Island Records sounds. The B side is a musicologist treat – an original 80’s tune recorded back in the day and finally unearthed! “Could Not Get Enuff” is nearly 6 minutes of PETER TOSH at the tail end of disco, wonderfully mixing Heavy Manners’ Jamaican riddims into dance styled 2-TONE meets Chicago grooves. PETER TOSH also provides backing vocals!!! Not to be missed! A sound that also was utilized by THE ENGLISH BEAT on later 12″ singles! Comes in CLEAR or WHITE vinyl – add to your 7″ vinyl order for only $5 more!
It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 7 years since we released the second album from Indiana’s funky soul reggae ska masters, now they are a name known around the world! We were lucky enough to get one last small “dirty repress” from the original stampers (so don’t be picky if there’s a little crackle love!), so act fast once these are gone they are GONE. Only 50 guys!
Though themes are of heartbreak, disappointment, and social worries, the end all be all is “don’t stop, keep moving.” From the Muddy Banks of the Wabash River comes the Soul Sonic, Blues Drenched, Sounds of Reggae and Ska that is the GRR. Their debut “HOOSIER HOMEGROWN” instantly had the ska scene taking notice. Could this band really have only formed in 2006? Hard workin and constantly touring, GRR quickly built up a solid fan base by playing shows big and small all across the USA, including stints with THE SLACKERS, MOON INVADERS, and AGGROLITES. On this self titled second album, producer DAVE HILLAYRD enhances these powerful influences: Trojan Records, Studio one, Motown, Stax, NYC Ska, Toots & the Maytals, The Wailers, The Skatalites, Lee Perry/The Upsetters, The Slackers, The Aggrolites, Johnny Cash, James brown, Otis Redding & more. Its Motown & Kingston. Soul & Reggae. The result is brilliant, 14 amazing tunes that capture the high-energy that GRR have had at their shows since day #1. Green wax is sold out, black vinyl available. Housed in a two sided full color (well, at least green!) poster sleeve!
Can you believe that “THE RAMBLERS” turned 10 years old this year? Wow! Here’s your chance to get this stunning album on vinyl once again! “The production is superb; clean, but not slick, capturing and distinguishing every note, whilst creating a fleshy, warm sound. Arrangements are inspired – forget the many stellar solos and grand bass lines, those automatically garner attention, it’s the small musical passages – the three bars of organ swagger, the little drum fill, the guitar flourishes – that demand notice by their very understatement. The closer you listen, the more of these subtle interjections you’ll find, each immaculately timed, placed and delivered, all beautifully coloring the songs. Dare one compare it to Jackie Mittoo’s time at Studio One? Close, but I think Gladdy & the Allstars’s stellar work across the early reggae age is more apt. And then there’s the songs themselves, a diverse bunch but sharing one thing in common, their strong melodies, arguably the most powerful in DGB’s career. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Soul Radics have been very busy the past year traveling all over the USA, playing with major acts including THE AGGROLITES, FISHBONE, THE TOASTERS, MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES, and Stranger Cole at Jamaican Oldies Weekend in Chicago. Blistering traditional ska and early reggae with gritty soul melodies is what you get, their shows are an energetic tribute to the early sounds of Jamaica. So dress sharp and wear your good shoes, you will dance! “DOWN TO THE HALL” is their stunning debut on JUMP UP, ranging from laid back skinhead reggae grooves (“Pressing On”, “Rock It Steady”, “Never Soon Enough”), uptempo horn driven neo-traditional ska (“Reggae Better”, “The Worst Thing”, “Think Twice”) and 2-Tone dancers (“Don To The Hall”,”The Worst Thing”) – these nine tracks are full of sweet harmonies, bubbly organ, tight horns, and the powerful female lead vocals of skinbyrd pin-up Dani Radic. At a time when traditional ska/reggae bands worldwide are dominated by
clones of The Slackers and The Aggrolites, SOUL RADICS truly stand out from the crowd with a unique, 100% original sound. CD is a limited edition digipak, LP vinyl is currently sold out, sorry.

We at JUMP UP have been fans of SOLOMON JABBY for years – we are so proud to finally be able to work with him! As the guitarist and one of the original members of Christian roots reggae powerhouse Christafari, SOLOMAN has toured the world ’round and recorded a dozen plus albums. But much of his work has been overlooked in the “secular” market. This 7″ single will change that! Two BLAZING early reggae instrumentals with grinding organ – everyone who I have played this for so far immediately thought it was THE AGGROLITES or a ROGER RIVAS solo record! THESE TWO TRACKS are THAT GOOD! As always, released on Limited Edition random colored vinyl! You can hear this on on our Soundcloud page!

Babylove & The Van Dangos deliver an intense live show. The band guarantees an extravaganza of ripping skanking, heavy one-drops, and blasting horns, with the energetic frontman Daniel Broman spreading the love of old school ska and rocksteady music. Their unique take on the Jamaican tradition has brought them around the world and earned them a place in league with the top live acts on the ska scene.
The VOID UNION is a musical collective, brought together by their love of Jamaican music styles. Their core line-up consists of current and former members of Boston soul/ska road heroes WESTBOUND TRAIN – Thad Merritt on bass, Jesse Hayes on drums, Rich Graiko on trumpet, Alex Stern on guitar, and Anant Pradhan on tenor and alto sax. Both on and off stage, the VOID UNION invite other, like-minded musicians to join in – so it’s no surprise that their sophomore full length “HIGHER GUNS’ includes appearances from KING DJANGO, ANGELO MOORE, DAVE HILLYARD, and OBI FERNANDEZ just to name a few.
