Repress! THE DENDRITES “Damn Right” LP vinyl / Tape – top shelf jazz ska from Denver!

REPRESS on RED VINYL OUT NOW.  You might remember their “MOUNTAIN STANDARD TIME”  full length on Megalith back in 2009, since then the band have really built up a strong scene in their home state of Colorado with a self-released CD in 2011 and a cool vinyl 12″ EP in 2013. Fast forward to 2017 at SKA BREWING’s 22nd ANNIVERSARY PARTY in Durango Colorado.  Headliners LESS THAN JAKE were forced to cancel due to Hurricane Irma and with one day’s notice THE DENDRITES came and saved the day! A wonderful night was had by all, the band’s super cool and jazzy instrumental ska vibe was a hit with the packed crowd, fans danced right to the very end! It was at that very moment that we here at JUMP UP knew we wanted THE DENDRITES to join the family. In this day and age an 100% instrumental ska/reggae/jazz album is a bit of a rarity, but we LOVED this record so much that we were up for the challenge. Kinda like Blue Note recordings, timeless music “sings” whether they have vocals or not – “DAMN RIGHT” is one of those albums that we are sure will be considered a “future classic”.  They were a big HIT at SUPERNOVA SKA FESTIVAL 2021, and they’ll be back at the festival again in 2023!

Repress! DR RING DING “The Remedy” LP (poolside blue vinyl)

German ska & reggae virtuoso DR RING DING has returned with his seventeenth album, a wonderful collection of songs that range between reggae, old school dancehall, 2 Tone, traditional ska, cumbia and dub. Since 1987 he has performed with the top Jamaican influenced bands in Germany including EL BOSSO & DIE PING PONGS, SENIOR ALLSTARS, and THE BUSTERS. With the band SKA-VAGANZA he focused on traditional 60s Caribbean music, and that love continues with the songs on THE REMEDY – showing incredible diversity and talent as a singer, songwriter, entertainer and trombonist. Guests include Jamaican dancehall queen SISTA GRACY, the Grammy-nominated TIPPA IRIE, American jazz singer STEPHANIE K. and Swiss singer and Eurovision 2010 participant MICHAEL VON DER HEIDE. An absolutely enjoyable and well-rounded album! The remedy works – just call the Doctor! Repress on poolside blue vinyl in stock now, comes with a drink coaster for your glass of rum!

BUFORD O’SULLIVAN & THE ROBOTS “Stolen Soul” LP vinyl – THE SCOFFLAWS & Easy Star All Stars trombone legend!

Buford O’Sullivan is a trombonist and composer who has performed world-wide since the 1980’s. His first band, ‘Big Noise’ traveled the Northeast Corridor playing the alt music circuit from NYC and Albany to Boston. Big Noise played regularly at CBGBs, The Cat Club, and the music strip of Bleeker Street. In the 1990’s, Buford toured the 3rd wave ska craze extensively with The Scofflaws and The Toasters, traveling all across the USA and Canada, Europe, and South America. The Scofflaws second release ‘Ska in Hi Fi’ featured several of his songs, including ‘William Shatner’ and ‘Nude Beach’ for which a video was made and aired on MTV. He contributed a drinking song ‘Can I Get Another’ to the Toasters’ final Moon records release “Enemy of the System”. After the millennium, he joined The Easy Star All-Stars and his reach spanned the globe with performances at The Glastonbury Music Festival in the UK, the Fuji Rock festival in Japan, Blues Festival in Australia, Moscow, Singapore, with countless tours of England, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, and these international trips continue to this day. He has also worked with other bands such as Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Dave Hillyard and the Rock Steady Seven, The Brooklyn Attractors, and Dub is a Weapon. He continues to be the stand-in for Vin Gordon in the trombone chair for ‘The Skatalites Band’. His latest solo album “Stolen Soul” technically dropped at the end of 2019, and our initial plans for a vinyl release were side tracked by the pandemic. The album is so good we never gave up on it! As Buford puts it “Stolen Soul is a project that attempts to digitize the human soul. Using the wonders of 21st century technology, all of the anguish and sacrifice that goes into the human act of making music have been beatmaped and sampled to provide an album’s worth of listening enjoyment!” All songs written, produced, and performed by Buford himself, it’s a wonderful selection of 13 tracks that range from jazzy roots reggae, scorching ska, dub, early/skinhead reggae and modern 2-Tone – mostly instrumental but Buford belts it out on some songs too! Limited edition on red and clear vinyl. ***2023 Subscription Club Selection***

REPRESS! EASTERN STANDARD TIME “Time For Change” LP – DC’s Ska-Jazz pioneers

REPRESSED! Washington DC’s messengers of Ska-Jazz are back with a new record, their first full-length release since the critically acclaimed “Tempus Fugit” and first release since appearing on Derrick Morgan’s live album in 2017. “Time For Change” embraces the band’s signature sound of bop jazz and Jamaican rhythms, and blends this with with soul, rocksteady, and reggae Whether in a smoky jazz club or on a festival stage they always deliver a dynamic live performance. That signature flexibility has led to them becoming backing musicians for many Jamaican greats, including Derrick Morgan, Roy Ellis, Dr. Ring Ding, King Django, and Mr. T-Bone. Formed in 1995, Eastern Standard Time began as a project to bring musicians from Washington DC’s jazz and Caribbean communities together to play music based on the original Jamaican Ska. Over the years the membership crystalized into a seven-piece group primarily blending American soul and jazz with danceable Jamaican rhythms from the 50s to the 70s. Eastern Standard Time has logged years on the road, with dozens of tours throughout Europe and North America to their credit. As 2019 dawns Eastern Standard Time will be touring throughout Europe, North America, and beyond in support of Time for Change.  Heavyweight royal blue vinyl repress now available limited to 250 copies.

REPRESS! THE SCOFFLAWS self titled LP vinyl – 30th Anniversary Edition!

REPRESS HAS ARRIVED! The Scofflaws are a New York-based ska band that debuted in 1988. Known for their rambunctious live shows, technically proficient horn solos and tight arrangements, the Scofflaws were one of the top third wave ska acts of the ’90s and one of the most beloved bands on the now-defunct Moon Ska label, as well as the center and focal point of the once-thriving Long Island ska scene. The Scofflaws early sound was characterized by strong R&B and jazz influences as well as eclectic covers of such songs as Henry Mancini’s “A Shot in the Dark” and Danny Elfman’s theme for Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, while original songs like “Rudy’s Back”, “Paul Getty” and “William Shatner” became cult favorites due to the offbeat lyrics and quirky vocal stylings of bandleader Richard “Sammy” Brooks, co-founder Mike Drance and trombonist Buford O’Sullivan. Their self-titled debut studio album was released in 1991 by Moon Records, followed by Ska in Hi Fi in 1995, the concert recording Live! Vol. 1 in 1996, and their third studio album, Record of Convictions, in 1998. They toured the United States several times, including stints as the openers for Desmond Dekker and Bad Manners. The band’s lineup saw frequent changes and served as a springboard for numerous New York ska musicians, original co-frontman Mike Drance left in 1994 to form the Bluebeats, bassist Victor Rice went on to be a founding member of the New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble and continue a career in music production, and Buford O’Sullivan played for The Toasters and Easy Star All Stars. Although the Scofflaws have not released a studio recording since 1998, Brooks continues to lead the band in live performances within the New York area.  We are so excited to release their 1991 debut album on vinyl for he first time ever, on royal blue and yellow. Formed in 2010 by ex-members of DEAL’S GONE BAD and LORD MIKE’S DIRTY CALYPSONIANS with a very simple idea – start out as a 2-TONE cover band playing the hits of THE SPECIALS, BAD MANNERS, BEAT, MADNESS, etc – the later create 2-TONE versions of songs that have that ska potential! Original DGB singer “Lord” Mike Park once again was on the case and recruited a top notch troop that included ex-DGB keyboard player Karl Gustafson, DGB guitarist Dave Simon, Vee Sonnets on lead guitar, Jason Berry on bass, and Matt Meuzelaar on drums. The band’s first 2-TONE’d studio cut was NINEY THE OBSERVER’s “BLOOD & FIRE” released on a limited edition 7″ single, with a new version of the classic DGB song “MAD AT THE WORLD” on the flip.
