SIR J & THE KINKYLAB ALL STARS “Sounds From The Vulcano” LP {OUT OF PRINT}

SIRJWHITESIRJBLUEThis first solo album by SIR J is full of instrumental organ-injected tunes, pop-a-top early reggae, smooth but tight guitar driven rock steady, plus magically selected shots with 50s flavors and light dub ambiances. SIR J aka Javier García Murcia has been developing his career since the mid 90s, a self-taught guitarist with a sweet and smooth sound, whose unique style is equal parts jazz and vintage 60s/70s Jamaican music.

As the leader of THE OLDIANS he has recorded four full length albums, plus has contributed with the KINKY COO COO’s (ska-soul-reggae), THE JABS (raw reggae), THE AGGRONAUTS (early & soulful reggae), LORD KAYA (60s ska), FLIGHT 404 (early reggae), RUBEN LOPEZ & THE DIATONES (rocksteady, reggae), and THE CATALONIANS (ska-jazz) just to name a few!

In fact, it was this wealth of collaborations that lead to this incredible debut: a riddim section from here, recorded bass pattern from there – a few recording sessions later the debut album from SIR J AND THE KINKYLAB ALL STARS was born! All drum tracks were taken from previous recording sessions at KINKYLAB studios from FLIGHT 404. THE OLDIANS, THE DIALTONES, and THE KINKY COOCOO’S. Eleven tracks that range from light & breezy ERNEST RANGLIN style Jamaican jazz , scratchy & groovy organ driven reggae ala JACKIE MITTOO or SOUND DIMENSION, sax fueled rock steady like TOMMY McCOOK & THE SUPERSONICS , intricate MONTY ALEXANDER style piano jazz reggae, and hard hitting UPSETTERS style skinhead sounds.

“SIR J” is also the first man to call when Spanish ska, reggae and roots bands/producers need that ‘magic Jamaican jazz’ guitar touch, plus he has participated in the backing bands of Dave Barker, Roy Ellis, The Pioneers, Ken Boothe, Laurel Aitken, Rico Rodriguez, Alex Desert and Greg Lee from Hepcat, Vic Ruggiero from The Slackers, and Dr Ring Ding. SIR J’s musical hyperactivity led to a partnership with Alejo Peloche, and together they created KinkyLab Studios, a Jamaican music hub in Barcelona where dozens of albums have been musically crafted, recorded and mixed. In the last 10 years, KinkyLab has been the place where SIR J developed his skills of musical production, recording and mixing.

So sit back, place the needle on the record and get magically transferred back to a time when reggae was still jazz…its SOUNDS FROM THE VULCANO!
