BIM SKALA BIM is celebrating 40 years! Needless to say they are one of our all time favorite bands, American ska pioneers that helped fuel our ska obsession in the 80s when we were in high school! Back at the tail end of the 80’s a handful of US bands kept the flame alive with college radio airplay and small club gigs, it was at one of these first Chicago shows that we picked up their debut 7 inch “Fathead” with iconic design by Sluggo! To celebrate the band’s historic birthday we wanted to recrate that early DIY 7 inch single vibe, complete with “late night Kinkos xeroxed sleeves” designed once again by Sluggo! Three must have covers in BIM stylee, two on vinyl for the very first time. Stranger Cole’s “Run Joe” and Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home To Me” were both recorded in 1999, while The Beatles’ “Rain” first appeared on the vinyl only “Boston Does The Beatles” LP collection in 1987. Black vinyl with big hole for real heads, one time press of 500 copies.

Big Ska Band has been together for almost 25 years and has recorded five albums to date including “Skallelujah”, “Big Ska”, “55:22”, “Revival” and the brand new self titled Jump Up Records release. The group is led by Grammy winning producer Joe Ferry, whose credits include “Hi Bop Ska” by The Skatalites; “Greetings From Skamania” by The Skatalites; and “The Age of Insects”, “Hit Me” and “Punk Steady” by SKAndalous Allstars. Joe Ferry is also co-writer of the modern ska classic, “Skalloween” which has been re-recorded for this new collection. On this ten track album the band’s lead vocals are shared by Joey Ray, who is one of the most in-demand session singers in New York City, and Corey Glover from Grammy Award winning rock legends Living Colour. Stylistically, the album delivers something for everyone – up tempo third wave skankers with hi-octane horns and gang chorus, laid back summer reggae jams, jazzy Skatalites instrumentals, SKAandalous All Stars style cover tributes (including Radiohead’s “Creep” and a stadium rock medley), rub-a-dubby steppers and so much more! A great listen from start to finish – this record literally takes you back to the diversity of records that came out in the 90s third wave heyday. CURRENTLY OUT OF PRINT, SORRY! Black vinyl remains. Legendary 1991 alt rock/ska album on vinyl for the first time, adding 3 bonus tracks from the original sessions. Boston’s Bim Skala Bim are one of a handful of veteran ska bands that have kept ska in America alive through the decades, and for this set the group collaborated with Lou Giordano and other rock producers. The lyrics were more focused than on previous efforts, highlighting the group’s political engagement and familiarity with contemporary futuristic literature. Taking their cues from the jazz oriented Skatalites rather than British 2-Tone, this early release by the group’s five core members shows why they were one of the best. Dan Vitale’s compelling lead vocals and Jim Arhelger’s drums are firmly rooted in the rock arena, but they meet the band’s swelling horns and jazzy ska arrangements for a smooth, upbeat sound that’s paced at just the right tempo to demand dancing. For many of the band’s most devoted fans, “Bones” was the quintessential summer album, tunes like “Wandering Soul”, “In Our Midst”, “People In The World” and “At Wo’s” became the beach party soundtrack for college towns all across the Eastern seaboard. Limited edition of 500.
We are once again VERY proud to be part of SPECIALIZED’s latest musical series, with proceeds benefiting the TEENAGE CANCER TRUST foundation in the UK. As you remember, the inaugural SPECIALIZED compilation featured songs by THE SPECIALS, the second series expanded to a double disc set of (ENGLISH) BEAT songs, and this massive new undertaking honoring MADNESS ended up as a four CD mega collection! Once again, JUMP UP is filling the hunger of vinyl fiends worldwide by releasing the cream of the crop on limited edition 7″ singles! We’ve got a bunch of special colors coming out on this one so keep a look out!
