Two HOT SHOTS from BRIXTON RECORDS Spain! LP vinyl release of the debut album of Italian maestros North East Ska Jazz Orchestra, originally released in CD format in 2015. NESJO delivers in this first album, Stompin’ & Rollin’, ten remakes of jazz and swing classics performed in the Jamaican style of the ’60s. From original ska to rocksteady and reggae, the young big band from Triveneto (north east Italy) conveys in this work energetic enthusiasm for Jamaican music, stylishly enriched by the coolness of the dance music of the golden era of swing. Stompin’ & Rollin’ features two outstanding collaborations: Mr. T-Bone (Africa Unite, Bluebeaters) and Olly Riva (Shandon, Olly Riva & The Soul Rockets) who join forces with the voices of Freddy Frenzy, Rosa Mussin, and Michela Grena, the ten-piece brass section and the sound rhythm base of this young big band. The album was recorded at Studio Jork in Koper (Slovenia) in March 2015 and mixed and mastered in The Volcano Lounge, Sherman Oaks (California) by Brian Dixon (ex The Aggrolites). It’s hard to believe that we now have fourteen NYSJE albums to enjoy! Quite an accomplishment in today’s music world, and maybe even more impressive for a “modern” traditional ska band. Think back to the humble beginnings of Rocksteady Freddie when he left The Toasters to start this wonderful project in the 90s – for us it’s crazy to think that the New York Ska Jazz Ensemble was the first ska concert at the Chicago House of Blues! As always you can expect top notch jazzy arrangements of foundation Jamaican sounds, over the years the players have changed but the vibe and energy remain the same. Freddie Reiter will never steer you wrong on these ten glorious tracks! Includes a fun version of “Love & Affection” and a tribute to the late great Tom Petty with “Learning To Fly”. “Break Thru” is a great mix of instrumental and vocal tracks that covers many Caribbean styles, of course all channeled through American jazz / blues arrangements that’s unique to this long-standing ensemble. Back in stock, first shipment sold out in a week! Comprised mainly of Swiss and French jazz musicians with a serious love of ’60s-era Jamaican music, Jah Jazz Orchestra is a superb ensemble that is as equally comfortable playing ska, rocksteady, and reggae as they are jazz. “Introducing” is a fantastic debut, recorded with a warm feel and choc full of Jamaican 60’s ska classics as well as American jazz standards. A must for fans of “laid back” Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra vibes, Western Standard Time, NY Ska Jazz Ensemble, or The (Brooklyn) Attractors. Another amazing Jamaican jazz ska classic came out in 2017 from Swedish band WILD MAN RIDDIM, their second album “Worldwide Frequency” “is the result of many spontaneous improvisational moments. The whole album was recorded in the old fashioned way: live, on tape, in 7 hours, and reflects WMR as they further explore the links between ska, jazz and reggae, showing without complexes the bridge they have built that spans from the tradition of the Scandinavian jazz school to the warm passion of ska and reggae. Both these amazing releases on Spanish imprint BRIXTON RECORDS.
