SPICY ROOTS was founded in 1994 and are one of the most famous traditional ska bands still active in Germany. In their initial year the band shared the stage with Laurel Aitken and Desmond Dekker, plus nationwide tours with numerous international ska acts. In 1997 the band recorded the first EP “Export” , which was released under the SOS Records label. In 2001 their debut album was released by Grover Records, touring all over Germany and Europe. After releasing their second studio album “Get Ready”, Spicy Roots toured across Japan in 2008. In 2010 “Just In Time” was released and the band played Moscow and at numerous festivals, such as The Irish International Ska & Reggae Festival and the Mighty Sounds Festival in the Czech Republic. After a long absence the band triumphantly returned with “PENNY BLACK” in 2019, delivering their catchy European revival sounds to fans worldwide once again! We’re so happy to be able to make these great albums available in the USA again at a budget price!
Dutch stars RUDE RICH & THE HIGH NOTES have been putting the soul in ska for decades, and we’re proud to have these two vinyl represses in stock once again! “SOUL STOP” from 2004 now on 180g black vinyl in a fold around sleeve, features 19 tracks including killer old school covers like “Prince Of Peace” (Prince Buster), “High School Dance” (Freddy McKay), “Hot Milk” (A Tribute To Jackie Mittoo), “Money Worries” (Ernest Wilson), “I Won’t Let You Go” (The Blues Busters), “Old Times” (The Heptones), “Ska Beat” (Alton Ellis), “Come Down ’68” (Lord Creator) – and of course amazing originals too! RUDE RICH and crew’s latest from 2016 “THE SOUL IN SKA” took that Motown sound and created incredible ska & reggae versions: “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg”, “Turn Back The Hands Of Time”, “Back Stabbers”, “Love And Happiness” – but they also kicked out Jamaican classics like “Turn Your Lamp Down Low”, “Evening News” and so much more! This repress is on WHITE vinyl too!
Happy to get these back in stock! Over the past 3 years we have reissued four modern-era LPs from ska’s originators THE SKATALITES, and fans have been asking us to get these solo albums from DOREEN SHAFFER back in stock! ADORABLE was released in 1997 and sees her backed by DR RING DING and the SENIOR ALL STARS – limited edition RED vinyl in fold over sleeve. 2009’s “Groovin” was backed by Belgium’s MOON INVADERS. We’ve restocked 90s classic from one of our favorite bands of ALL time! At last their 1996 masterpiece “HOME” sees a vinyl re-issue, it was their first album as a four piece and includes modern ska classics such as “So Blind”, “Always Tomorrow”, “Driving Me Mad” any many more! Very ltd. edition of 200 copies on yellow vinyl. We’ve also restocked their 1999 studio album “SCREAMS DREAMS & CUSTARD CLEANS”, the last album with Mick Clare on lead vocals. Very limited blue vinyl!
We’re digging back into the late 90’s for this vinyl repress! British traditional ska band INTENSIFIED released “Yard Shaker” in 1997, and to this day it stands as one of the best 60’s inspired Jamaican ska albums of the decade, on par with HEPCAT, The Articles, Scofflaws, etc. Listen to the cut “FAT CAT” from this album and the comparisons to HEPCAT jump out at ya! This limited white vinyl re-press with fold around sleeve won’t be around for long!!!! THE AMPHETAMEANIES second full length “Now That’s What I Call” came out in 2006 and was a bright light in the UK ska scene, very English fast paced 2-Tone with a Madness circus appeal. Male and female vocals trade off in this pub friendly ska stomper! As an added bonus we are tossing in their 2008 4 track EP “Goodbye Boyfriend” at no extra charge!
