THE TOASTERS “2 TONE ARMY” LP (JUMP099LP) + “DUB 56” LP (JUMP098LP) back on vinyl

Two classic 90’s album from American ska pioneers THE TOASTERS are once again back on vinyl! “DUB 56” from 1994 is a Moon Ska NYC classic, back in print on random color  vinyl! A fantastic album, a highlight of the “third wave” – influenced heavily by British 2 Tone yet distinctly American.  14 tracks on vinyl: Direction, Freedom, Mona, Dancin’, Dub 56, Sweet Cherie, Tunisia, Little Hidden Secrets, Marlboro Man, Ain’t Huthin’, Razor Cut, Legal Shot, Midnight Hour, Goody Goody. A couple years ago when we were chatting to Bucket from THE TOASTERS, we realized that there were a handful of albums that NEVER appeared on vinyl including the amazing 2 TONE ARMY collection which included their biggest MTV2 video hits!  The artwork is a tribute to iconic NYC SKA artist STEVE HEX who we lost a few years ago,  this must have album includes the hits “I WASN’T GOING TO CALL YOU ANYWAY” and the title track “2 TONE ARMY”. 10 tracks, on dark grey marble vinyl. A truly fantastic record, one we are so proud to have our name on!

If you’re a manic collector make sure you pick up these two albums on limited edition cassette tape too!

GREEN ROOM ROCKERS – Self-Titled CD / LP (OUT OF PRINT) (JUMP092)

“Our sound is funky reggae, soul, a dash of country roots, and Punk Rock Ethos. The style of reggae and ska we play has urgency and intensity. It’s sweaty, pound the floor, dance music”.

It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 7 years since we released the second album from Indiana’s funky soul reggae ska masters, now they are a name known around the world! We were lucky enough to get one last small “dirty repress” from the original stampers (so don’t be picky if there’s a little crackle love!), so act fast once these are gone they are GONE. Only 50 guys!

Though themes are of heartbreak, disappointment, and social worries, the end all be all is “don’t stop, keep moving.” From the Muddy Banks of the Wabash River comes the Soul Sonic, Blues Drenched, Sounds of Reggae and Ska that is the GRR. Their debut “HOOSIER HOMEGROWN” instantly had the ska scene taking notice. Could this band really have only formed in 2006? Hard workin and constantly touring, GRR quickly built up a solid fan base by playing shows big and small all across the USA, including stints with THE SLACKERS, MOON INVADERS, and AGGROLITES. On this self titled second album, producer DAVE HILLAYRD enhances these powerful influences: Trojan Records, Studio one, Motown, Stax, NYC Ska, Toots & the Maytals, The Wailers, The Skatalites, Lee Perry/The Upsetters, The Slackers, The Aggrolites, Johnny Cash, James brown, Otis Redding & more. Its Motown & Kingston. Soul & Reggae. The result is brilliant, 14 amazing tunes that capture the high-energy that GRR have had at their shows since day #1.

HOT STOVE JIMMY “Theme for a Major Hit” LP (JUMP027LP) {OUT OF PRINT}

It seems strange, but we are seeing a bit of a renaissance on this album! At the time it was generally overlooked (some flat out hated it!) – but the fact of the matter is that HOT STOVE JIMMY’s “Theme From A Major Hit” was a bit ahead of it’s time. Fast forward t0 2017, RIOT FEST does a post on the “Ska’s Strangest Strands” and mentions it alongside the BLUE MEANIES in a truly favorable light calling it AVANT-SKA: “Likeminded Chicago bands The Blue Meanies and Hot Stove Jimmy would embrace the ska tag and push it to its psychedelic, drugged-out limits, with their respective final albums, 2000’s The Post Wave and 1999’s Theme For A Major Hit, respectively, being the most prime examples. By then, ska-punk was de rigueur, and though both acts fell into that tag at one time or another, their final albums sounded like acid-drenched freakouts that just so happened to ska elements peppered in. Surely confounding at their time, The Post Wave and Theme For A Major Hit remain documents of a time when ska became its most untethered and experimental, something that would take years to be fully embraced.” Continue reading HOT STOVE JIMMY “Theme for a Major Hit” LP (JUMP027LP) {OUT OF PRINT}

DEAL’S GONE BAD – “The Ramblers” LP VINYL – RED VINYL 10th ANNIVERSARY EDITION! (OUT OF PRINT)

CURRENTLY OUT OF PRINT. SORRY! an you believe that “THE RAMBLERS” turned 10 years old this year? Wow! Here’s your chance to get this stunning album on vinyl once again!  “The production is superb; clean, but not slick, capturing and distinguishing every note, whilst creating a fleshy, warm sound. Arrangements are inspired – forget the many stellar solos and grand bass lines, those automatically garner attention, it’s the small musical passages – the three bars of organ swagger, the little drum fill, the guitar flourishes – that demand notice by their very understatement. The closer you listen, the more of these subtle interjections you’ll find, each immaculately timed, placed and delivered, all beautifully coloring the songs. Dare one compare it to Jackie Mittoo’s time at Studio One? Close, but I think Gladdy & the Allstars’s stellar work across the early reggae age is more apt. And then there’s the songs themselves, a diverse bunch but sharing one thing in common, their strong melodies, arguably the most powerful in DGB’s career. RODDY RADIATION “BLUES ATTACK” LP (JUMP095LP – OUT OF PRINT)

BLUES ATTACK now OUT OF PRINT.  Far too often when a band claims to combine two dissimilar styles of music into an all powerful “new” hybrid, fans get a wee bit skeptical. After all, in most cases these creative endeavors fail miserably – and quite often it involves ska music. Simply put, this stereotype does not apply to the SKABILLY REBELS. RODDY RADIATION’s band successfully takes the best parts of rockabilly, minus the cheesiness that all too often is associated with the genre, and then puts it to a laid back traditional ska beat. Should we expect anything less? Of course you already know him as the legendary guitarist of The Specials (who also wrote their classics ‘Rat Race’, ‘Concrete Jungle’ & ‘Hey Little Rich Girl’), who also later formed blues influenced acts The Bonediggers and The Tearjerkers. He’s a veteran and true innovator of both the 2-TONE ska movement and the English rockabilly revival scene. Roddy’s  voice is smooth and melodic, yet with pub grit. The fact that his guitar playing is superb goes without saying, but his ability to seamlessly combine both ska and rockabilly without losing the integrity of either genre is downright amazing.  Roddy Radiation has proven again that he is a truly innovative musician and may be in the process of once again reinventing the face of ska music. Guess this album forces rude boy mods and skins to mix with rockers and teddy boys. What can’t we all just get along? Continue reading RODDY RADIATION “BLUES ATTACK” LP (JUMP095LP – OUT OF PRINT)
