We’ve been working on this release for a VERY long time, but as you could tell from the tracks we leaked on our free CD samplers – it’s well worth the wait! Five amazing ska & reggae gems backed by NYC’s finest THE SLACKERS – DANI returns to full stride after leading the SOUL RADICS around the world for years. Such a natural collaboration, produced by DAVE HILLYARD and features all members of the band plus Buford O’Sullivan (The Scofflaws / Easy Star All Stars / Skatalites) on trombone, Mike Sarason (Far East) on keys and LARRY McDONALD on percussion. Recorded in Brooklyn NY and Pum Pum Studios in Belgium with Nico Leonard. Pressed in Italy on blue (SOLD OUT), red (SOLD OUT), and classic black vinyl (less than a box remain). Available in the EU though our partnership with Grover Records.
We’re VERY proud of the SOUL RADICS. In 2012 we released their debut album on JUMP UP and the rest is history! Lead by the charismatic DANI RADIC, the SOUL RADICS soon were known the would round and toured Europe more than the USA. A wonderful new-traditional ska sound that appealed to pretty much everyone. So much energy and great songs! Long time fans will be happy to hear that DANI RADIC has a new mini-LP coming out this year backed by THE SLACKERS on Jump Up! But to hold you over, we have imported their 2016 10″ mini-LP “Radication” (black vinyl remains) and final 7 inch single. In addition we have picked up more copies of DANI’s solo ska single recorded with European backing band, known as the MOONHEAD PROJECT (black vinyl)
Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Soul Radics have been very busy the past year traveling all over the USA, playing with major acts including THE AGGROLITES, FISHBONE, THE TOASTERS, MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES, and Stranger Cole at Jamaican Oldies Weekend in Chicago. Blistering traditional ska and early reggae with gritty soul melodies is what you get, their shows are an energetic tribute to the early sounds of Jamaica. So dress sharp and wear your good shoes, you will dance! “DOWN TO THE HALL” is their stunning debut on JUMP UP, ranging from laid back skinhead reggae grooves (“Pressing On”, “Rock It Steady”, “Never Soon Enough”), uptempo horn driven neo-traditional ska (“Reggae Better”, “The Worst Thing”, “Think Twice”) and 2-Tone dancers (“Don To The Hall”,”The Worst Thing”) – these nine tracks are full of sweet harmonies, bubbly organ, tight horns, and the powerful female lead vocals of skinbyrd pin-up Dani Radic. At a time when traditional ska/reggae bands worldwide are dominated by
clones of The Slackers and The Aggrolites, SOUL RADICS truly stand out from the crowd with a unique, 100% original sound. CD is a limited edition digipak, LP vinyl is currently sold out, sorry.
OUT OF PRINT, SORRY! We at JUMP UP are so proud to be working with Original SYMARIP keyboardist / singer / songwriter MONTY “Neysmith” MONTGOMERY in 2015! The partnership started at the end of 2014 when we booked him for a Jamaican Oldies show at Mayne Stage, for that gig we called on THE BISHOPS from Omaha, Nebraska to learn the SYMARIP songbook plus some of Monty’s modern moonstomp classics. We figured since everyone was in town, let’s go into the studio and see what happens! Produced by Mike Corcoran of Deal’s Gone Bad at his Legendary studios, the gang went in to re-record two of Monty’s classics from the new millennium – “JUMP” is a midtempo ska groover with great horn hooks and soulful vocals calling you to the dancefloor! The flip is a tribute to the Laurel Aitken – “Laurels For Laurel” thanks the Godfather of Ska for taking a chance on a young group called THE BEES – who would eventually morph into the mighty SYMARIP! It’s also a midtempo ska groover with THE BISHOPS providing excellent backing vocals as well as that steady backbeat. Continue reading MONTY “Neysmith” MONTGOMERY of SYMARIP returns!
