OUT OF PRINT, SORRY! We at JUMP UP are so proud to be working with Original SYMARIP keyboardist / singer / songwriter MONTY “Neysmith” MONTGOMERY in 2015! The partnership started at the end of 2014 when we booked him for a Jamaican Oldies show at Mayne Stage, for that gig we called on THE BISHOPS from Omaha, Nebraska to learn the SYMARIP songbook plus some of Monty’s modern moonstomp classics. We figured since everyone was in town, let’s go into the studio and see what happens! Produced by Mike Corcoran of Deal’s Gone Bad at his Legendary studios, the gang went in to re-record two of Monty’s classics from the new millennium – “JUMP” is a midtempo ska groover with great horn hooks and soulful vocals calling you to the dancefloor! The flip is a tribute to the Laurel Aitken – “Laurels For Laurel” thanks the Godfather of Ska for taking a chance on a young group called THE BEES – who would eventually morph into the mighty SYMARIP! Anyone familiar with the American Reggae and Ska scene has already heard the work of the musicians in the BROOKLYN ATTRACTORS. The group’s core line-up consists of New York City Reggae and Ska veterans, LARRY McDONALD, EDDIE OCAMPO, BIG DAN JESSELSOHN, BUFORD O’SULLIVAN, JUSTIN ROTHBERG, as well as Anant Pradhan and Luke Penella, two emerging musicians on the NY Jazz scene. The group was created by Westbound Train trumpeter and Void Union co-founder RICH GRAIKO in 2011 as a way to pay homage to 1960’s era Jamaican and American instrumental music. The seeds of Lord Mike’s Dirty Calypsonias were planted years ago within the ska/reggae scene of Chicago. As the legendary singer of Deal’s Gone Bad, Mike toured endlessly across America and recorded three full length albums for JUMP UP Records. Mike retired from Deal’s Gone Bad in late 2003, being replaced by Todd Hembrook (formerly of Heavy Step). At this time, Mike’s calypso calling had
not surfaced yet…but a few months later it came suddenly in the dark of the night! A vision! Was it an apparition of the Mighty Sparrow himself? Could it have been the voice of Lord Kitchener? The Revivers are a collection of veteran musicians from the southern California Ska/Reggae scene featuring members of The Debonaires, The Skeletones, and See Spot.
