After 90’s ska boom had come and gone in the USA, many albums released in the early 2000’s were simply missed by fans worldwide. Hopefully, you realize artists like THE SPECIALS and labels like JUMP UP continued to support ska during “the lean years”….labels ran to release other styles (dare I say emo), and ska bands “changed their sound” to avoid being called ska. Guess what? There were some cool ska albums released at the turn of the millenium, including 2 albums by THE SPECIALS! Both “SKINHEAD GIRL” and “CONQUERING RULER” dig into the TROJAN RECORDS soundbook, and the band’s sound was top notch lead by RODDY RADIATION, NEVILLE STAPLE, HORACE PANTER, and NEOL DAVIES. Well done MAD BUTCHER, releasing these records on vinyl give the albums a new lease on life and will be enjoyed by an entire generation of vinyl fans! Continue reading Restocked! THE SPECIALS “Conquering Ruler” & “Skinhead Girl” LP vinyl in stock now!
Longtime fans of MEPHISKAPHELES know that JUMP UP has reissued their first three classic full lengths on vinyl over the past decade, plus we’ve distributed their self titled mini-LP from 2015. In 2019 the band released a brand new 4 song EP and since then we’ve been trying to figure out how to make this a cool vinyl release. Then one day we were shown a process where a printer can put a digital print on a blank side of a record – and the idea behind the “NEVER BORN AGAIN” vinyl was born! MEPHISKAPHELES added two never before released demo versions brining the music side to 6 songs total, pressed on clear vinyl and limited to 500 copies. Due to the complex nature of this project this will remain a one time pressing! Originally set to ship out the second week of December, a pressing and printer delay unexpectedly kicked this to the beginning of January.
We’re proud to team up with Abbey Productions for the debut full length from DETROIT RIDDIM CREW – featuring tracks from THE TELLWAYS and a holiday classic from J. NAVARRO &THE TRAITORS featuring Rachael Stokes. Detroit Riddim Crew is a collective of musicians spearheaded by Eric Abbey (J. Navarro & The Traitors / Tellways / Superdot / 1592) who record at Castle Hooligan in the heart of Detroit. Previous vinyl 45s featured Dave Hillyard on sax over the “Castle Riddim” dubbed by Agent J on the flip – the second 45 release was “Oh Shepard” featuring Jah Ques on vocals with the riddim on flip. This debut album contains music recorded in Detroit & Kingston, JA – side A features Christmas & holiday tunes in a rocksteady & ska style, side B features a collection of riddims showcasing up-and-coming deejays Jah Ques, Esne da Goddess, and Eddie Riott, concluding with a dub version mixed by Fatta. The Kingston session was engineered by Delory ‘Fatta’ Pottinger, who worked with Sly and Robbie and many others, and was performed by Steve Golding on guitar, Keith Bennet on drums and Glen Browne on bass. Limited edition of 400 copies with 150 each on white and red vinyl for the holidays! Initial orders come with a BONUS Detroit Ridim Crew 7 inch single!
LOLLIPOP LORRY formed in 2008, and from their earliest shows the band gained a reputation of being one of the most promising ska/reggae bands in Russia, if not the world! Their repertoire is based on their own original songs and tunes as well as the traditional Caribbean music standards — ska, reggae, dub, calypso. During the last 12 years the band performed at the largest Russian festivals, played with The Wailers, BeNuts, Markscheider Kunst, St. Petersburg Ska-Jazz Review and toured all across Mexico, where they enjoy a massive fanbase. Lollypop Lorry have fans all around the world, lead by powerful yet soulful female lead vocals, and their music can be heard on many international compilations and podcasts. Visually, the band dress sharp and excite a crowd – they are also the only ska/reggae band in Russia whose videos have more than 4 million viewers from different countries. Inspired by American jazz and The Skatalites, the band can also drop roots reggae grooves for cool late night sessions, as witness on their recent “Goes Dub” album. “Live At Octopus’ sessions were so popular on YouTube that Russian label Magnetic Loft released it on vinyl in 2019! New for 2020 is the band’s first 7 inch vinyl single – and a Christmas ska double header at that! “Magic Moments” made famous by Perry Como in 1954 backed with “Skankin’ Around The Christmas Tree” on the flip. Red and green vinyl each limited to 200 copies. Comes with a Christmas card too!
We’re digging back into the late 90’s for this vinyl repress! British traditional ska band INTENSIFIED released “Yard Shaker” in 1997, and to this day it stands as one of the best 60’s inspired Jamaican ska albums of the decade, on par with HEPCAT, The Articles, Scofflaws, etc. Listen to the cut “FAT CAT” from this album and the comparisons to HEPCAT jump out at ya! This limited white vinyl re-press with fold around sleeve won’t be around for long!!!! THE AMPHETAMEANIES second full length “Now That’s What I Call” came out in 2006 and was a bright light in the UK ska scene, very English fast paced 2-Tone with a Madness circus appeal. Male and female vocals trade off in this pub friendly ska stomper! As an added bonus we are tossing in their 2008 4 track EP “Goodbye Boyfriend” at no extra charge!
The late 80s / early 90s was a truly fantastic time for ska music on the European continent. Ska was still heavily influenced by 2-Tone and hadn’t been diluted yet by the forthcoming third wave. Labels like Unicorn, Skank, and Pork Pie ruled the scene and gave fans worldwide something to look forward to! German skasters NO SPORTS were one of those top acts and their first two releases are still classics to this day. Mad Butcher Germany has reissued their amazing debut “KING SKA” from 1989 as well as their follow up 4 song “STAY RUDE STAY REBEL” EP from 1990, now released on 7 inch single. OH MY GOODNESS!! NO SPORTS just released a BRAND NEW album in 2021 and it’s in stock now! Fourteen tracks of manic aggressive 2-Tone ska !!!
Three more great German reissues from MAD BUTCHER! First off is the debut and second album of bouncy 2-Tone rhythms from SKAOS! These stone cold classic originally were released in 1989 on PORK PIE Germany, but also appeared later on UNICORN UK. From the get go this album gets your feet moving much in the same way as others from the era: MR REVIEW, NO SPORTS, NAPOLEON SOLO immediately come to mind. SKAOS was always compared to MADNESS back in the day, and I can still see that – this album does have a constant “ONE STEP BEYOND” feel to it with it’s hypnotic horns and tight keys. Oh my listening to this once again brings back some memories! Reissued in original German art. Another gem from Germany is BLECHREIZ “Who Napped J.B.?”, a soul influenced 2-Tone gem that originally was released on the short lived RUDE RECORDS in Germany.
THE BRACES were part of the first wave of amazing post-2-TONE German bands, but (in our option) had a more pop oriented songwriting style that set them apart from “harder” edged bands like No Sports, Blechreitz, Skaos, or The Frits. Songs on their debut “PRIME CUT” (Unicorn Records) have stood the test of time, specifically “Julie Julie” and “Her Smile Means Nothing” which we played to death on our radio show back in the day! A couple years later they returned with their follow up “BLUE FLAME” on Pork Pie Records.
We’re now carrying this great “Best of” import collection from California’s top traditional act THE DEBONAIRES. We released “Movin'” CD/LP and “Longshout” CD on Jump Up – which are now all out of print. But this GROVER import is the next best thing!
Tracklisting: A1 Criminals A2 See You Again A3 Oil In My Lamp A4 No Dice A5 Hold You A6 From My Eyes A7 Garcia y Vega B1 Out Of My Life B2 Same Way B3 Shutdown B4 Left With A Broken Heart B5 Fortune Teller

We’re so happy to announce our second release on PAY ATTENTION – our brand new imprint with Ska Punk Daily! What better than a brand new full length album from California’s HALF PAST TWO, who were featured on our first release TOO HECTIC earlier this summer! Having formed in 2006 and gigged with national acts Reel Big Fish, The Aquabats, Less Than Jake, The Skatalites, RX Bandits, The Selecter, The English Beat, Mustard Plug, and The Toasters, Half Past Two are veterans of the ever-thriving Orange County ska scene, but their forward-thinking approach also aligns them with with ska’s bold new generation. Their recent single “Shine” was a highlight of the 2020 compilation ‘Ska Against Racism’ and truly forecasted the amazing new album we have here today! The album-making process took a little longer than usual due to COVID, but HP2 kept the momentum going by rolling out singles on a regular basis throughout 2020 and 2021 — first “Shine,” followed by “All About You,” “Mean Green,” and “Some Nights” – all included here on the new self titled album. As you can hear on the pre-release singles, Half Past Two pull inspiration from multiple eras of ska as well as anything from driving punk rock to shiny pop. They cite such influences as Reel Big Fish, Weezer, The Hippos, RX Bandits, and Mad Caddies, and they’re proud to coat their songs with a little sugar. ‘Bubblegum Ska” is honestly the best description for HALF PAST TWO and we can’t get enough of this wonderful 12-track album! Blue and yellow vinyl each limited to 200 copies, both with full color insert / lyric sheet! ***2021 LP CLUB SELECTION already on it’s way to you!***
